IMERSA releases 2013 Fulldome Summit schedule (February 14-17, Denver)

Opening keynote with Ivan Dryer, founder of Laserium
Laserium introduced new technology and a new business model to planetariums - entertainment shows that extended the programming, expanded the audience and provided a new source of revenue. With planetariums now rapidly converting to fulldome systems, and science center operators converting film domes to digital cinema, there is new potential for creativity and market expansion, and new interest in the pioneering example set by Ivan Dryer more than 35 years ago.

Barry Clark

Saturday keynote – “The Fulldome Story”
Barry Clark, Executive Producer, Telenova
As Executive Producer of Telenova Productions, one of the founders of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and an unofficial guru of new technology, Barry Clark helps decipher the science behind the art of 2D and 3D filmmaking.

Innovations in Immersive Experiences
An overview of recent, noteworthy and breakthrough projects in various markets – entertainment, education, corporate - that feature immersive guest experiences and digital dome technology. With Ed Lantz (Vortex Immersion) and Markus Beyr (Attraktion!)

Portable Dome demonstrations
Screenings and software demos. Details TBD.

Panel discussion: Playing together under the dome
Perspectives from converging communities on how to realize the potential of Fulldome from a creative and business standpoint. We will hear from IMERSA affiliates in themed entertainment, giant screen cinema, the production community, and the business community. Panel producer: Judith Rubin. Moderator: Michael Daut.

Clusters of 10-minute presentations showcasing innovations of all kinds in immersive art, science, venue design and programming. A breakout room will be available for followup discussions. There are still some slots left to fill – if interested, please email 200-word abstract to info@imersa.org by January 4th. Acceptance notifications for selected presentations will be given by January 14th. Curators: Ed Lantz and Claudia Cumbie-Jones.

Curated Fulldome Screenings in the Gates Planetarium
Titles TBD. IMERSA is now accepting submissions for innovative, full-length shows as well as trailers to be screened at the Summit. We are looking for recent material produced for dome exhibition that was released between July 2011 and the present. To nominate a selection, please send a summary including title, producer, distributor, intended venue and audience, show synopsis, release date and runtime, with an explanation of why the show is important, innovative or breakthrough. Send to info@imersa.org. Summit screenings curator-in-chief is Ryan Wyatt.

IMERSA Fulldome Standards Update
We continue our endeavors to formulate a set of working specifications for Fulldome. You can get up to date on the IMERSA Standards Committee and its materials by joining the group at www.fulldome.org. If you wish to be part of this, please join the committee and attend this meeting if you can. The committee is chaired by Ryan Wyatt and Ed Lantz.

Session: Workflow wonders, pre-purposing and transmedia
Discussion on how a fulldome production can be planned as part of a larger media rollout that includes a variety of other formats and delivery vehicles, such as flatscreen, 3D, mobile media and 4D experiences. Speakers TBA.
